Purpose

The Trail Atlas is the public platform for the Miami-Dade County Trail-Oriented Development (TrOD) study — a multifaceted, transferable trail evaluation program. It evaluates every existing and proposed mile of trail (roughly 535 miles proposed countywide) against five priority topics and 17 variables drawn from the Comprehensive Development Master Plan (CDMP), producing a transparent, system-wide ranking for investment. Trails are grouped into three tiers, with the top-ranked recognized as Tier 1 — those best positioned to deliver maximum community impact once constructed.

How It Works

County staff maintain the trail matrix in Excel — the single source of truth — and publish updates here; the app scores, ranks, and maps the network. Because the scoring weights draw from CDMP policies, the analysis is kept in sync with the latest CDMP revision. GIS geometry is layered on to map the network, and the study also identifies catalytic nodes suited for trail-oriented development — one recommended per political district.
